Puppies On Prozac

about

This was the beginning of my career as a performance poet. I think that's fair to say. The poem was inspired by an episode of 'Donahue' I think (remember Donahue?). The episode did in fact feature pets on prozac. Awful really, sad creatures, unable to raise the slightest excitement despite the bright lights and crowds of a studio audience for a national television program.

As with the rest of Diatribe, I love the backing music that Matt created. Oh, this one was in the show Mouth Off too, way back in 2003 at the Sydney Opera House when we were all very young. My thanks To Crisin O'Keefe Aptowicz for physicallising the poem for the stage.

This is one of the few pieces from that period that still occasionally pops up in the live set.

Steve Smart is practically indestructible. Hard headed and stubborn, he may not be the most famous poet in the world but no one can say it's from lack of trying. All of his poetry and music albums are right here at Bandcamp.
