about

'Ain't That A Kick In The Head' was not just an album, it was an entire concept, a monstrous beast that overtook my life for quite a while there. There was a zine, two substantial tours, a number of video clips and what can be best described as a kind of zen/bourbon philosophy. And ever the voice of Dean Martin followed me wherever I went.

ATAKITH was definitely my most collaborative album, working with different producers, engineers and musicians. Many thanks to all of them: Brad Armstrong, Leigh Robertson, Matt Hetherington aka Zaziz, and Steve Grimwade. All individual tracks are credited with the cats what worked on them (ooh, I felt just like Steve Jones then!) but I should thank Steve Grimwade and RRR FM for getting the ball rolling. Mr Grimwade very kindly offered me an hour of studio time at RRR to record a bunch of poems that made up the bulk of the vocals for 'Ain't That A Kick'. Occasionally we had to redo a particular poem because Steve's laughter was a bit too audible - he's a good audience : )

The album was launched on October 28th 2006 at the Dan O'Connell Hotel along with Helen Boettcher's CD 'Today Is Beautiful'. The night was MC'd by Fiona Sievers and also featured Julian Langan-Fox, Meg Dunn, Matt Hetherington, Leigh Robertson and Jez Speelman.

The album is dedicated in memorium to Sandon Mcleod, my partner, my best friend, my love. Miss you kid.

Thanks also to Emily Ulman, whose songs provided inspiration for several of the poems. I recommend you go seek out all of her albums, she's incredible.
