about

I fucking love Leigh Robertson's guitar on this track. I'm sure Leigh would be able to tell you more about what kind of guitar it was, which amp he used and all that jazz; me I just know it sounds good. I was happy with the vocal too, although we discovered in the mixing process that whilst we recorded on a stereo mic (dangling between us from a rafter on the ceiling) we couldn't actually seperate the guitar and the vocal. Turned up one, the other went up, turned the other one down... Possibly it was impossible, or maybe I just didn't know what the hell I was doing. In the end there is a definite difference in the vocal quality on the stuff Leigh and I did and the vocal tracks I recorded at RRR with Steve Grimwade, but I think it works for the poems - gives them a kind of ghostly quality that fits the themes of loss and death that are primary in the text.

Oh, this is also one of three poems on ATAKITH inspired by the songs of Emily Ulman - in this case the song 'To Dust' from the album 'Upping The Ante'.

Steve Smart is practically indestructible. Hard headed and stubborn, he may not be the most famous poet in the world but no one can say it's from lack of trying. All of his poetry and music albums are right here at Bandcamp.
