about

Best ofs are a funny process. If you have all the albums already then what's the point really? Still it's a bit fascinating to look at a body of recorded work that stretches over 14 years. I've added some new pieces, remixes and tracks that never made an album so it's not all shuffle-lame. Polished up some only almost awesome tracks.

Of course I leave everything until the last minute because... Then George FoH and I start recording weird samples of cats and cigarette smoking sounds and somehow work it into a cohesive whole (winevodka). My thanks to George for saving my baconbutt and Loran Steinberg for absolute design of the project.

George and I tried to maintain an over-all sound consistency, which is not always super possible considering the varied origainal source material. But I think we (he) did pretty well. Didn't want it to fuck your earballs.

Thanks to all who made suggestions of poems I was definitely not allowed to leave off the 'best of'. On pain of punching that is... Amber, Benjamin, Deb Lee, Jacky T, Kim Jeffs, Loran & Randall.

Thanks to the venues who regularly don't tell me no, and keep letting me do what I feel I do best.

Thanks to audio visionaries George FoH, Brad Armstrong, violin supreme wonder Sarah Curro, Matthew J Dufty, Evri Evripoudou, Jez Speelman & Bill Backhouse for all of their contributions to this album. And Amanda and Carmen (of 'Loop City' and 'This Sickness' fame).

To my family who remain amazingly understanding. And to the Slamalamadingdong crew for the cover shot.

All the love,
Steve

about

Steve Smart Poetry & Music Melbourne, Australia

Steve Smart is practically indestructible. Hard headed and stubborn, he may not be the most famous poet in the world but no one can say it's from lack of trying. All of his poetry and music albums are right here at Bandcamp.
